Programs for Kids
Town Track Club Junior Olympics Program is a Youth Track & Field and Cross Country club for ages 5 - 18. Town Track Club is based out of the Boston, Ma neighborhood of Charlestown and is open to Boston/greater Boston area youth of all ability levels. There are no tryouts or cuts. The focus of the program is teaching running as a lifelong pursuit, increasing athletic skills and conditioning, team competition, and friendship. Town Track athletes compete in the USATF Junior Olympics as well as various local meets. Fall X-Country starts in September and ends mid December. Spring/Summer Track Season starts in April and ends late July.
Track and Field involves training and competing in a variety of events and distances on the track from Sprints (100, 200, 400 meters) Distance (800, 1500, 3000 meters) Throws (javelin, shot put, discus) Jumps and Hurdles (long jump, triple jump, high jump, pole vault, 100 hurdles, 400 hurdles) Relays (4x100, 4x400, distance medley) and Multi-events (Decathlon, Heptathlon).
Cross Country involves training and racing at distances from 1.2 miles/2K to 1.8 miles/3K (2.4/4K for 13-14 year old’s, 3.1/5K for H.S), through grass fields, wooded trails, and city parks and is an excellent form of conditioning for all sports.
